looks like slip claw ...similar to what the odd canary suffers from ....if you want to you can try taping the claw back with a narrow strip of elastoplast to its leg in a more natural position ...it'll only work while the bird is still young ..
-
i'd leave them well alone ....and stop taking them in and out of the nest ...then theres a sporting chance you won't end up hand rearing (something i've never had to do in 35 years of keeping birds )...when they are on the perch will be soon enough for the photo shoot .....regards jeff

i guess to make one is to put a crested to a normal penguin you'd probably get normal looking zebs of which some would be crested also split penguin then put one of the those crested chicks to another line of penguins and i think you might end up with a crested penguin
-
you sure can ..i sold one at stafford last march ...it was a hen ,really good crest like a gloster canary .....
-
have a good day merv ...ps the fireworks aren't just celebrating your birthday!!

i was reading somewhere (i think it was on the zebra finch society website written by dennis webster) an article about combining penguin zebs and cfw to make a red flanked zeb ,presumably the black bits on a cfw are suppressed by the penguin mutation and the grey backs of a penguin are overridden by the cfw mutation ??..so a cock bird of a red flank would just have orange cheeks with no tear mark and just the chestnut flanks ..on an otherwise white bird??. but if you go on efinch .com and look at "good" pairings for penguins it dosen't advise putting penguins with cf whites... anyone had any experiences ??..regards jeff

get on the train dave ..have a day out at blackpool.,the sea air will do you good .,..i've quite a few nice zebs again now and will probably bump into you at july stafford

he bought alsorts off me dave....birds (which he came and collected) and cages.( i remember delivering them in my savoy van)..i've recently sold most of my fawn cheeks to a guy in bolton ...i've just 1 decent hen of that mutation left ...(buy i'll probably breed some more).. if your ever near sunny preston ,call in for a brew and a look at the menagerie!!
-

i've a few silvers and silver light backs .. a good site to look at is jan pastoors ,theres some stunners on there ...i'm trying to get, by using my own stock some black faced siver light backs...might even produce my own bred creams .. if you fancy a silver light back cock and your passing preston i can sort you one out for free ...i took it to stafford for some one on here but it failed to be picked up .regards jeff
