  2. what is the difference between a cfw and a continental cfw?Sorry I cant answer that question. When I bought the parent birds, I didnt know about all the variety of colourss/names etc you could get I just really liked the look of them. I've noticed the hen has a ring on her leg but I've no idea what's on it. All I was told was that they were young birds and were not siblings, and I already knew it was a cock and a hen.Emmy
  3. This is mum and dad:Hen; fawn?Cock: cfw?Emmy
  4. Trevor I should have said that the top bird and the third bird are the same bird and the 2nd and the 4th are the same bird. (Wasnt trying to trick anyone but it was just I didnt think when I downloaded the photos to say that it was photographs of just 2 birds ps you matched them up perfectly***** to you Thanks again I have another 'white? one with a dark head so I guess she will be a fawn cfw as well. If the fawn cfw had been a male what colour of cheek patches would it have? Have just noticed on the 2nd from top photo there seems to be faint colour on its cheek patch do females have this?Emmy
  5. I do know they are not exhibition standard birds but now that they're a big bigger am I correct in thinking I've got 'fawn lightbacks'? this is what it was thought when they were younger. I know I've also got a normal cock male didnt get his photo today (guess he's a bit camera shy )Emmy
  6. Hi JamieReading about what you are building- I'm thinking about those finches you're getting, when they arrive they'll will be thinking they've moved into a mansion Joking apart it must be a lot of work constructing that but I'm sure it will pay dividends in the future and you'll get lots of pleasure from the Finches. Good luck Emmy

    Fawn 2012

Paul these two are just lovely (I'll know what to do now to get them on my hand if this next lot hatch out. When do you begin to handle them? I was afraid in case the parent birds wouldnt feed them again if I handled them too soon)Emmy

  10. Thanks for the link Mark and Sorry Paul I think it was me with my questions who set your post off in a different direction Emmy
  11. Mark do these cages come in a 5cage sealed unit or do you have to build them up?Emmy
  12. Maybe a silly question to ask but putting all the males together and same with the females does this not create an enviroment where they will fight with each other?Emmy
  13. Hi Mark When you do this do you separate the male & famale or do you just remove the nest box? I didnt separate them but I removed the nest box but the hen started laying eggs again- this time on the floor of the cage. If this happens do you just remove the eggs? (I find that hard to do - that's why I've now got another full nest with 7 eggs which should hatch out around the beg. of next month.Emmy

Thanks for sharing the photographs Paul, they are lovely birds. One of mine that hatched out in December is developing these same colours so I guess it will be a 'normal'.Emmy

  19. Well Mark since you did all that work as you suggested earlier on this is my first painting of a zebra finch Its Helen's Sooty(Far from perfect though!) Think Sooty may require a 'make over' Helen if you read this I'm sending you a pmEmmy(Forgot to post the link - I've posted it on a separate post.)
  20. WOW! Mark that's just wonderful what you have done I never realised there are so many different colours. Thank you for giving your time doing this I guess more than me will appreciate all your hard work.Emmy
  21. Hi Helen ad MarkYes I've been thinking about trying painting zebra Finches. At the moment I cant relax enough to paint- just in the middle of getting all the repairs done after all the damage done with the high winds we had here in Scotland. Then within the next 2/3 weeks I'm having new central heating installed but once that is finsihed I will definaltely need to relax and I'll paint a zebra finch for the forum - If you (Helen and Mark) have a good clear photograph of one you would like painted please post it - you may have to be patient but I'll do it. (but please dont forget I'm just an amateur)EmmyThese are a different type of bird Once again my daughter in France took the photograph of her hens and I decided to do a painting of them and gave it a name 'Chick Chat: We'll cosy up together' (The name I use to sign my paintings is Nonnagina)
  22. Thanks Helen its justs another one of my hobbies. It was a change painting a bird usually its bigger pets I paint (eg dogs cats rabbits etc)The following are photographs taken at my daughter's home in France. This wild bird stunned itself and I managed to get it to take some water from my finger , then onto my finger and finally it flew off from my finger onto the roof of a building. Just was sooo wonderful to be able to study a 'wild' bird so close up. I'm going to be doing a painting from those photographs soon.Emmy
  23. Thanks Helen and Tam-M for your input.Tam you said well thats a good enough reason for me to join the zfsEmmy
